First Visit

Thank you for choosing Leura & Wentworth Falls Physiotherapy to help guide you to recovery and better well being. We provide the expert care you need in a relaxed & professional environment, all with the convenience of extended opening hours & HICAPS on-the-spot health fund rebates.

Please arrive about 10 minutes early for your first appointment so that we can provide you will all the relevant information and to give you a little time to fill out your client details form.

Generally loose fitting clothing is ideal to wear. If you have a lower limb complaint then we recommend wearing a pair of shorts and if you have an upper limb, back or neck complaint then we recommend wearing a singlet top. We have gowns and shorts available on site if required so it is not an issue if you have forgotten.

You do not need a doctor's referral to see us for normal physiotherapy treatment, including claiming of private health fund rebates. However, if you have already seen your doctor and they have given you a referral then please bring this with you. If you are in a private health fund then for your convenience please bring your card with you to allow HICAPS on-the-spot health fund rebates.

The only time you need a doctor's referral is if you are claiming your treatment costs through workers compensation, DVA (Veteran's Affairs), Medicare or third party insurance such as following a car accident. If you are claiming your treatment costs through these systems then you will need the appropriate doctor's referral as well as insurance details or your DVA card. Please contact your GP or our clinic for any further information.

You do not need to have any scans or x-rays prior to seeing us, although if you have already had these or have any relevant ones from the past then please bring these along with you. If your physio feels you need this type of investigation then they will discuss this with you and organise an appropriate referral for you.

Medicare does not normally cover the costs of physiotherapy treatment. In a few chronic cases, limited treatment is available through the Enhanced Primary Care scheme. If you think you may be eligible for this then please discuss this with your GP, who will need to organise a Patient Care Plan for you and give you the appropriate referrals and Medicare documents.

Your first treatment session

At your first treatment session you will be given as much time as is needed for your full examination and treatment, usually around 30-45 minutes. At this session your physio will:

Take a full history of your injury including any past problems and upcoming goals that are relevant

Perform a thorough examination to work out your diagnosisSet treatment goals with you to make sure we are focusing on your biggest concerns

Begin your treatment program in the clinic, often with a mix of hands-on techniques, pain-easing modalities and exercisesGive you your initial home programme. This may be an exercise, heat/ice routine, or advice about modifying your activity, exercise, or desk set-up.

Our goal is to ensure that your underlying problem is corrected and that the risk of your pain recurring is minimised. This is why our treatment plans extend far beyond simply getting rid of the pain, and is also the reason why we focus so much on informing you about your condition, it's predisposing factors, treatment goals and ways to reduce the risk of problems in the future.
